Greenstone appointed to DECC Advisory Forum

The Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has launched a Quality Assurance accreditation scheme for carbon offsets.

The scheme is intended to enable consumers to quickly recognise a high quality offset and avoid some of the potential pitfalls involved in offsetting carbon emissions. To achieve the Government assured status, the offsets provided must adhere to a certain level of standards, assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Accurate calculation of emissions to be offset;
  • Use of good quality credits;
  • Cancellation of the credits within one year of the offset purchase;
  • Clear and transparent pricing;
  • Provision of information about the role of offsetting in tackling climate change and advice on footprint reduction for consumers.

DECC has set up an Advisory Forum consisting of representatives from various stakeholder groups. Greenstone is participating in the Forum as an expert on emissions calculation and source of independent advice on carbon offsetting.
