Alastair Nicol
Associate

Alastair J Nicol BSc CEng MEI, has worked as an Energy Engineer for over 20 years, and has often contributed to the development of the various Government Energy programmes spanning that period. Alastair writes, lectures and presents extensively for numerous Institutions, Industry associations, and Government on subjects ranging from combustion to cooling technologies.

Alastair is an accredited Carbon Trust consultant, providing amongst other things product development support, CHP, Boiler efficiency and heat transfer/recovery, bespoke advice and running or participating in numerous workshop and seminars for the carbon trust. He has also prepared a range of Good Practice Guidance for the Carbon Trust and researches and advises on technology market readiness for various quasi-Governmental agencies.

Specialising in heat generation and transfer technologies, particularly biomass he well known and recognised within the Energy Industry and often consulted in respect of design or operational difficulties encountered in these technologies. This experience includes the responsibility for the feasibility study, conceptual design, and specification and project management over a range of heat generation and transfer technologies including:

• Waste to energy plant design and whole project development/specification

• Combined heat and power projects including co-generation and waste to energy design elements. Community/district Energy project development.

• Furnace/incineration, cremation plant including heat recovery and emission control works - conceptual design, tender, contract supervision, research and preparation of all statutory documentation, testing and commissioning.

• Boiler house and steam distribution performance evaluation. Boiler sizing, detailed heat loss analysis and plant specification.

• Investigation and the assembly of expert evidence

Alastair is comfortable applying his knowledge practically, solving design and operational issues for the smallest client through to working with some of the largest global companies.
